In the 1980's Jan was Guitarist-in-Chief with Cartoon Biker Band Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, supporting Guns 'n' Roses on extensive tours of the US and Canada. Other musical collaborations include Aswad, Maxi Priest and Pete Shelley.
In the 1990's Jan recorded three highly respected solo albums: Beyond the Common Ground, Spirit and Prickly Pear (see quotes below).

Jan has written and produced the instructive CD accompanying the monthly UK magazine Guitarist for more than a decade. Artists such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big) and Pat Travers have all recorded with Jan in his North London Studio.
Jan is currently setting up Cornford Records with Paul Cornford of highly respected guitar amplification manufacturers Cornford Amps- a new label concentrating on new talented guitar players worldwide.
Recent visitors to Jan's studio include John Squire from the Stone Roses, Richie Kotzen from US Stadium rockersPoison, Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones fame and Zakk Wild of Ozzy Osbourne.

After graduating with honours in composition from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama he formed the Indie Band Sunshot and co-produced their single Lose my Grip on Deva Records (NME Single of the Week)
Co-produced with Richard Burgess the first XC-NN Album and co-wrote the first two singles: Young, Stupid and White and Looking Forward (Rhythm King)
Co-produced the Sunshot live album Iron Ball Direction (Deva Records)
Produced and remixed the first Tin Star single Disconnected Child (V2 Records) XFM Single of the Week.
Produced the Stella Maris album Why does our milk have Eyes? from which the single Good bloke/bad bloke and God became XFM and NME Single of the Week.
